This is a fairly complete, if brief, overview of the basics of shakuhachi playing, musical notation, history and what techniques are involved in performing traditional compositions.
From what I understand, it was the authors doctoral thesis cleaned up a bit for publication. I would have appreciated more depth, but apparently this is the only game in town, so I'm happy to have convinced my local library to stock it.
